  • Wines Born of Basalt: Entre Pedras creates electric, mineral-driven wines from Pico’s volcanic soils and wind-battered vineyards.

  • A Story of Friendship and Grit: Founded by André Ribeiro and Ricardo Pinto, the project began with just 500 bottles and a lava cave.

  • Native Grapes, Native Yeasts: Arinto dos Açores, Verdelho, and Terrantez do Pico, made with minimal intervention and maximum respect for the land.

  • The Soul of the Azores: Every bottle is a tribute to Pico - its landscape, its people, and the raw Atlantic force that shapes it all.

Entre Pedras – Wine Carved from Stone and Sea

On the wild, volcanic island of Pico in the Azores, where vines grow between walls of black basalt and salt-laden winds sweep in from the Atlantic, Entre Pedras is writing a powerful new chapter in Azorean wine. Founded by André Ribeiro and Ricardo Pinto, this project is rooted in friendship, perseverance, and a deep reverence for the raw beauty of Pico’s landscape. It is not just a winery, it’s a reflection of a place where winegrowing feels like a heroic act.

The story begins in 2017, when André and his father planted the first vines: a small parcel of Arinto dos Açores in the rugged north, and a sliver of Verdelho in the south. Just two years later, during the 2019 harvest, fate brought André and Ricardo together. What began as a shared passion quickly turned into a partnership, with a vision to craft wines that speak honestly and boldly of Pico’s volcanic soul.

Their first wine, only 500 bottles of Arinto dos Açores, was aged inside a lava cave beneath the vineyard, a poetic and practical choice that set the tone for everything to follow. Since then, they’ve continued expanding, clearing ancient plots by hand, rebuilding stone walls, and planting native grapes like Terrantez do Pico, all while uncovering abandoned vineyards in Criação Velha, one of the island’s most hallowed terroirs.

Today, Entre Pedras farms some of the most striking vineyard land on the island, navigating basalt-rich soils, extreme weather, and the fierce Atlantic elements. Viticulture here is manual, physical, and deeply connected to place. In the cellar, the philosophy is simple: let the land speak. Native yeasts, minimal sulfur, slow fermentations, and aging in stainless steel or neutral vessels give the wines clarity without makeup.

The wines of Entre Pedras are like the island itself: wild, vibrant, and elemental. They carry notes of citrus, sea spray, and volcanic stone, with piercing acidity and a whisper of smoke. They’re unmistakably Azorean, humble in scale, but full of life and energy.

More than just a wine project, Entre Pedras is a labor of love, built stone by stone, vine by vine, by two people who believe that the essence of Pico deserves to be bottled and shared with the world.
