Nestled in the heart of the Douro Valley’s prestigious Cima Corgo subregion, Quinta de Estanho is a family-owned estate dedicated to producing authentic, traditionally styled Ports and Douro wines. Founded in the early 20th century, the estate takes its name from the Portuguese word estanho ("tin"), referencing the region’s rich mining history and the mineral-laden schist soils that define its vineyards.
The Carvalho family, now in its fourth generation, oversees the estate with an unwavering commitment to traditional methods. Their vineyards are planted on classic Douro terraces carved into steep slopes, where the native grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and others, thrive in extreme conditions. Many vines are over 70 years old, with deep roots that yield wines of exceptional concentration, structure, and aromatic complexity.
In the winery, the approach remains deeply traditional: hand-harvesting, foot-treading in granite lagares, spontaneous fermentations, and careful aging in old oak casks. Quinta de Estanho produces a full range of Ports: Ruby, Tawny, LBV, Vintage, and Colheita, as well as an increasingly respected lineup of still Douro DOC wines. All reflect the rugged beauty and timeless spirit of the Douro.
With low-intervention farming, minimal cellar manipulation, and a deep respect for terroir, Quinta de Estanho offers wines that capture the authenticity and soul of the Douro Valley, balancing richness and power with freshness and precision.
